Pudacuo National Park
Pudacuo National Park is the first national park in Chinese mainland, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction. It is located in the center of the world natural heritage in the "Three Parallel Rivers" in northwest Yunnan Province, covering an area of 601.1 square kilometers. It is composed of two parts namely the Bitahai Lake Nature Reserve (the wetland of international importance) and the Shudu Lake Scenic Area in Haba District of the "Three Parallel Rivers". The term "Pudacuo" is derived from the Sanskrit scriptures in Tibetan Buddhism, which means the boat used to deliver all living creatures from torment to the other world.
The park is 22 km away from the downtown area of Shangri-La. It belongs to the alpine cold warm coniferous forest vegetation zone. The main vegetation types are four native forest communities namely spruce, fir, arix potaninii batal., and pinus densata mast. The park is rich in animal and plant resources. Among them, there're 171 families, 568 genera, and 2275 species of seed plants. The rich species and their genetic diversity and the diversity of ecological vegetation all show the exuberant vitality of Pudacuo. There are as many as 268 species of animals such as Ptychobarbus chungtienensis (lip fish), black bears, clouded leopards, golden cats, red pandas, otters, black-necked cranes, blood pheasants, and gray cranes. It is an ideal base for scientific research and investigation.
Visitors can get a direct contact with the virgin forest along the wooden plank road by the lake in the park, to feel the joyousness and comfort from the sound of insects and birds, get in close contact with the little squirrels, feel the loveliness and spirituality of wild animals, and to experience the harmony between human and nature in person; the natural oxygen bar will take you into the realm of emptiness and brightness, making your thoughts soar; the colorful and well-bedded autumn scenery makes it an ideal home for photographers and for the shooting of numerous film and television works.
