Unveiling the Mystery of Yunnan's Mali Masa People

Unveiling the mystery of the Mari Ma Sa people in Yunnan. They have their own unique culture and language, with only about 2000 people worldwide. During a harvest festival celebration in Weixi, Yunnan, Yu Fan first encountered the legendary Mari Ma Sa people. This ethnic group, numbering around 2000, resides in Tacheng Town, Weixi County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province. They possess their own language and culture. However, during the ethnic identification process in the 1950s, the Mari Ma Sa people were classified as a branch of the Naxi ethnic group. They are mainly concentrated in several villages including Gaogu and Haini in Haini Administrative Village, Tacheng Town, Weixi County, and Guanliluo, Xin Cun, and Ru Ke villages in Kona Administrative Village. "Mari Ma Sa" means "May the hunter not die, and the prey not escape," a blessing given by parents to their children when they leave home to hunt. The Mari Ma Sa people are a small ethnic minority group on the border, and have gradually attracted more attention from the outside world in recent years.
