Bita Lake, the Pearl of the Plateau

The water of Bita Lake is formed by the convergence of snowmelt from snow-capped mountains and streams. There is a circular island in the lake, rich in vegetation species, which has been called a "plant gene bank" by botanists. An ancient Buddhist temple stands on the island. The wetland ecosystem centered on Bita Lake is listed as an internationally important wetland. Bita Lake is the most important part of the Pudacuo National Park. A primitive fish species lives in the lake. According to biologists, it is a living fossil of ancient organisms left over from the Quaternary Ice Age. Because of its double upper lip, it is called "Bita double-lipped fish", also known as "Zhongdian leaf-whisker fish". Every May in the lunar calendar is the season when rhododendrons bloom in Bita Lake. When a gentle breeze blows, rhododendron petals fall on the lake surface, attracting fish in the lake. After eating the petals, the fish become intoxicated and float on the water's surface, forming a unique spectacle of intoxicated fish and rhododendrons. It is said that old bears in the forest also come to catch the intoxicated fish under the moonlight. The famous writer Feng Mu once described this scene, and since then, the spectacle of "intoxicated fish and rhododendrons" and "old bears catching fish" in Bita Lake has become famous. The unique water, unique flowers, and unique animals have created these two unique wonders. Strolling along the wooden boardwalk by Bita Lake, one can enjoy the lake, mountains, ancient pines and oaks, and blooming mountain flowers, all complementing each other.
In the scenery of Bita Lake and its surroundings, one can see the natural manifestation of the eight auspicious symbols in Tibetan Buddhism. Bita Lake is a sacred place where the eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism naturally appear. It is not only picturesque but also has boundless Buddhist blessings.
