Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve is China's largest and highest-altitude national nature reserve, primarily dedicated to protecting Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys and their cloud cold fir forest habitat. It is one of the 25 global biodiversity hotspots identified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey is also recognized by the IUCN as a critically endangered species. The Chinese government has made international commitments, and protecting the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey and its habitat is crucial to the nation's image and affects every aspect of China's nature conservation efforts. The reserve management bureau has always emphasized the stability and growth of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey population and the improvement and optimization of its habitat as the primary standard for evaluating the effectiveness of the Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve in implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development and the Great Discussion on Emancipating the Mind.
