Habitat of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys

The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey has a dark brown back and a white belly. Locals call it the "white monkey." It is one of the world's 25 most endangered primate species. According to the leaders of the nature reserve, in the 1960s and 1970s, there were more than 2,000 Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys in the Baima Snow Mountain area. However, due to rampant hunting, their numbers plummeted to around 70 by the early 1990s. In addition, the existing natural populations of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys are almost completely isolated, exhibiting an island distribution, making inter-group gene exchange difficult and affecting their reproduction.
